The following links are to practice tests I made using the same software that I generally use to write the
tests I give in class. The online format is obviously different from what you will see in class, but the
depth and style of the questions is about the same, in fact, some questions will probably be the very
same. There are two things you should realize before studying these tests. First, your tests in class will
generally have a few short answer, problem solving or essay questions in addition to the multiple
choice questions. These do not. Secondly, the test generator software allows instant resorting of
answers and questions. This means that memorizing the correct answer to the online test question, in
hopes of seeing it on the real test is not a good idea. Incidentally, for this same reason, I can easily
generate several versions of a test, making it a very bad idea to try to cheat on the test. Students
should use these online tests as a method of testing the knowledge you have gained, and a way to
determine your areas of weakness for further review. Good students will already know this. You should
be aware that the tests give page numbers for you to find the information. This goes with the Honors
chem book, not the general chem book. If you are not in honors chem, you should still be able to locate
relevant information using your textbook's index.
Good ways to use these tests:
1. At the start of a new unit, take the online test. This will help you determine your familiarity with the material.
It will also make you aware of any new vocabulary words that you will hear later on.
2. Several days (or a week) before the test, take the online test in order to see what areas you have questions
on. Come in to 6th period to ask for help when the room is not filled with "crammers".
3. The night before a test, take the online test to see what areas of the book or your notes you should review.
Also, pay attention to the style and wording of the questions. This will help alleviate test anxiety the next day.
4. Throughout the trimester, use these tests to keep old information fresh in your mind, to prepare for the final
exam. These tests will also help people who have chemistry during trimesters 1 and 3. Those unlucky people
can keep their chemistry skills fresh during trimester 2 by taking these tests. Then they won't have to "re-learn"
everything when tri 3 rolls around!
* This quiz is offsite and does not provide
immediate feedback (your results will be
sent to me and to you if you give your e-mail
address), but it is similar in format to the one
you'll take in class, except it is missing
elements W and Bi.
**This quiz is also offsite, but does give
immediate feedback. It only covers 40 of the
56 elements you need to know. Its format if
very different from what you'll see on the test.
